2008 World Series Of Poker News
California's Poker Players Conference kicked off last weekend and was well attended by amateur and professional players. Keynote speaker was the commissioner of the WSOP Jeffery Pollack. Mr. Pollack commented on the upcoming 2008 WSOP and that the "poker tent" would not be a factor this year leaving all players to always be playing at the Rio. Mr. Pollack also stated that there would not be anymore than 55 events and there will be services available for the all the players comforts.
Last years WSOP left a lot to be desired among the poker elite. Players found the events to be very strenuous with a 54 event calendar taking place over 33 days. Several of the professional players mentioned that they hoped this years event would return to the old method and minimalize the events played as well as include other games than just texas holdem. Many players would like to see H.O.R.S.E and 7 Card Stud at the tournament this year to compliment the WSOP in recognition of the skill involved in these two forms of poker. Entrants await the final schedule in hopes of some changes but it is expected that the WSOP will proceed the same as last year. Perhaps in the future the Commissioner will examine the positive changes that were reflected at the conference and incorporate them into future tournaments.
