US Poker Players left in Lurch
The latest in the ongoing US Government war over internet gambling is the seizure of more than 30 million in payouts affecting US poker players. The Poker Players Alliance released a statement on Tuesday sighting US attorney for the Southern District of NY has instructed 4 banks to freeze accounts belonging to online payment processors.
The Prosecutors faxed a letter to Alliance Bank of Arizona alleging accounts held by Allied Systems Inc. were subject to seizure because they constituted property involving money laundering transactions and illegal gambling offenses. Representatives of Citi Bank and Wells Fargo confirmed to the NY Times that the banks of indeed frozen the funds at the request of federal prosecutors.
This is another step backwards for the US citizens who enjoy the ability to play online poker in the comfort of their own homes. Representative Barney Frank who is spearheading an amendment in Congress to legalize internet gambling has yet to make a statement.
