Playing Strong Poker Tournaments
When playing online poker tournaments patience is the name of the game. If you want to be successful playing online poker tournaments you need to have a lot of patience. The types of players that take home the money are the ones that are able to sit out and wait for good hands while other players knock each other out of the game.
Here are a few tips to be successful when playing online poker tournaments.
" Choose a table with a lot of action - Some of the larger poker sites, such as Party Poker and Poker Room, always have a lot of players online. You can always find action here and the poker tables will fill fast. You have to know that all the players cannot be soil poker players.
" Choose a poker table where you are comfortable - If you are a beginner do not just jump into a $50 table. Start small and once you are winning you can move up to higher money games. This is good practice to get you ready for tournaments that offer good money.
" Fold a lot - For beginners it is very difficult to fold often. They will fold a few hands and see they would have won the hand when the flop comes out. After a few of these hands their careful approach to the game will be lost and they will not be cautious and it will cost them. You should know that every hand you would have won there is many more that you would have lost and by folding you made the right decision.
" Bet aggressively on good hands - If you use this poker strategy you have to win the pots when you have a killer hand and you need to come out betting strong. Try not to slow play and setting traps unless you are experienced in doing so. A lot of the time these tactics will let other players get a cheap look at another card or cards, which could make their hand better then yours.
" Switch up your tactics - When players get knocked out of the tournament the hands that you were folding should look better and you may want to start betting on them. This is especially the case if you are in a late position. This tactic will make other players uncomfortable as they have seen you fold many hands earlier on in the tournament.
" Be careful when going all-in - You want to be in the final three of a tournament, so do not go all-in unless you are positive you have the best hand. It can be the case though that it can be good to go all-in on a player that has a short stack to try to get them out of the tournament.
