POKER TERMS
Fixed Limit Texas Holdem:
In a Fixed Limit Texas Holdem Game, no one may bet or wager more than a predetermined amount or number of chips. This limit usually varies with the round of the game. In Fixed Limit Texas Hold'em there are four betting rounds, betting limits usually double on the third round.
Pot Limit Texas Holdem :
In a Pot Limit Texas Holdem Game, players are only limited to what is in the "Pot" at the time of the wager or bet.
No Limit Texas Holdem :
In a No Limit Texas Holdem Game there are no predetermined limits and the player may bet or wager as much as he/she has in front of him at the time of the wager or bet.
Ante:
A token amount contributed by each player before the cards are dealt.
Bet:
A wager of a certain amount of money by a poker player in a poker game.
Blind Bet:
Forced bets by one or more players before the cards are dealt. A Forced Bet takes the place of an Ante at the beginning of a poker round.
Call:
The Call is to equalize the amount wagered by putting the amount of money wagered into the "Pot".
Check:
A Check Bet is a bet of zero dollars. When checking a player retains the right to call any bet made by a player who acts after he does or even to raise a bet.
Check-raise:
To "Check and then Rise" is used when one of your opponents bet, to trap the player for a bet or two. This is usually done by someone who is holding a powerhouse hand.
Fold:
This is when a player relinquishes their interest in this particular hand.
Raise:
When a player increases the amount wagered by an amount equal to or greater than his/her opponents.
Going All In:
When a player doesn't have enough to cover the bets and raises of a particular hand he may choose to "Go All In". This will cover the portion of the pot your money covers. Others who are active in the game may continue to make wagers, however these wagers will constitute a "side pot". At the hands conclusion the "side pot" is decided first and then the "main pot". Going All In means the player is not eligible for any money in the "side pot" since the player didn't invest into it.
