BARNEY FRANK ASKS POKER PLAYERS TO UNITE

In April of 2007 the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank told reporters that he will be pursuing the repeal of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement. However he also stated that he will not be going towards the repeal with full strength unless there is strong public demand for the repeal. Frank stated, "I think reconsideration among my colleagues is beginning but it's not far enough along yet," He also said, "If the storm of public unhappiness is great enough then I will try to substantially revise that ban."

He told reporters that he will not look for an exception for poker online even though there have been many poker lobbyists who have pleaded their case to Frank to do so, but Frank did not listen to their pleas. But Frank did state that he will not repeal the bill in its entirety only the portion off the bill that has to with the various issues in his committee. Frank stated, ""My committee only has jurisdiction over credit cards. I can't do more than repeal the ban on the use of credit cards. We don't have jurisdiction generally over the Internet or other aspects of this,"

As time passes it will be shown how those in the Internet gambling community respond to Frank's words. Since the bill took effect the gambling community has been trying to repeal the bill as they state that it infringes on their rights. With Frank stating that he will see what the public says it is time for those in the online gambling community to have their voice heard. One way to do this is with online petitions. Another way is to contact state representatives and let them know that they are opposed to the Internet gambling ban. It is now up to the gambling community to have their voice heard if they want to repeal the ban.

In order to get in touch with state representatives the online gambling community can find the phone number and mailing addresses for congressmen in their state.
