OMAHA POKER RULES

Omaha Poker and its variations are quite similar to Texas Holdem in that each player must make his best hand from his hole cards and the community cards. The difference with Omaha is each player is dealt four pocket cards and then five community cards are dealt to the centre of the table. The player must then use two of his pocket cards and three of the community cards to make his best poker hand.

Prior to dealing the first pocket cards, two blind bets are placed in the pot. These are known as the Small Blind and the Big Blind. This is done by the two players immediately to the left of the designated dealer for this round of Omaha Poker.

The dealer then deals each individual Omaha player four "down cards". These are known as the "pocket cards".

Now the action begins with each player beginning with the Omaha poker player to the left of the Big Blind folding, calling or raising according to his hand thus far. The betting continues around the table until all players have had the opportunity to bet in this "first round".

The dealer then lays out the first three community cards "face up". These are known as the "flop". Now the second round of betting begins with the player to the left of the dealer. This is when a player may check or bet (if there are no bets in front of them) After all the action is completed on the "flop", another card is dealt face up. This is known as the "Turn" card or "Fourth Street". The third round of betting begins again with the player to the immediate left of the dealer. The size of the betting doubles on this round and each round of betting afterwards.

After the Fourth Street action is completed, the dealer turns over the final card, which is known either as the "River" card or Fifth Street. The final round of betting begins, again to the immediate left of the dealer.

When all the bets are completed, the showdown begins between the remaining players. The winner is declared at this time. The winner will depend on which Omaha Poker game you are playing. In Omaha Poker, also known as Omaha High, the player with the highest hand wins the pot. In Omaha Hi/Lo there is a split pot. The players with the highest and lowest poker hands win the pot.
