Spending a few hours in a real-time poker room and a week or so of practice will turn you into the average player. Most of the Online Poker Site hosts allow their clientele to sit in any room and watch a live online Texas Hold'em game for real money. Take an hour or so to learn the rules, unlike other poker games, the rules of Texas Holdum are quite easy and understandable. With that being said, let's get started with the basics.

The Texas Holdem poker game is a community card game. Each player is dealt two "pocket cards" face down at the beginning of the hand. Five cards are then dealt in the centre of the table face up, these are called the "community cards", and thus Texas Holdem is a "community card game".

One player in each hand is designated the dealer for that hand. This position is signified by placing either a button or marker in front of the designated dealer. The big and small blind ante are placed by the prospective players and the game begins!

The dealer shuffles a 52-cards deck of playing cards and each player is dealt two "pocket cards" face down. They also could be called the "hole cards. " After the first deal is completed, a round of betting begins, this is known as the "pre-flop" bet.

The bet starts with the third player to the left of the designated dealer. The betting amount varies depending on the type of game you are playing. Either it will be a fixed betting game amount or no limit Texas Holdem . If you are just beginning your journey into the world of online Texas Holdem poker, I suggest you begin with a low limit Texas Hold'em game. Judging from your first two "pocket cards" this will determine whether you will choose to fold, check or rise.

After the end of the first betting round the dealer will lay out the 3 card "flop" or community cards on the centre of the table face up. After "the flop" the next betting round begins starting with the player to the left of the dealer.

When all the betting is completed the next community card is dealt to the center of the table. This card is known as "the turn" card. After the "turn card" is dealt, a new round of betting begins, again starting with the player to the left of the dealer.

After the betting for this round is completed the last and final card is dealt to the centre of the table. This card is known as "the river" card. You will either sink or swim with this one! Now that all five community cards are dealt the players still in the Online Texas Holdem game will form their final five-card poker hands. You may either use one, both or none of your "pocket cards" to form your hand. Finally the last betting round begins.

Each player making their final ditch attempt at the ever increasing pot. After all betting is placed the "showdown" begins with all the players showing their hands. The dealer declares the best hand the winner and that player receives the whole pot. Unless there are two equal hands and then the pot is split evenly between them. Pretty simple eh.....

The rules are basic and the instincts you will learn as you play. I suggest that you take some time to try the "Free Texas Holdem" rooms.
